"tmsh save /sys config file" command to save the full config of a Link Controller ?

Hello, 1 Link Controller 11.5.4 : the "tmsh save /sys config file" command allows to save the current config in a Single Config File (SCF) as described here : https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/13000/400/sol13408.html

Previously the Wideip.conf file was not saved via this command, but now, it seems to be the case according to this URL and accordng to some tests I did;

Can someone confirm that all Link Controller configuration files are saved in a SCF file via this method ?

I would like to use this .SCF save file as a template for other Link Controllers instead of going tens of times thru the long list of GUI menus; and I would also like to use this .SCF file to provisionn a great number of new objects (Nodes, Pools, VS, WideIP, ...) ; the .UCS format save config file does not really allow that

thanks in advance for your feedback

  • Link controller is a cut down version of BigIP DNS (previously called BigIP GTM). The config requires a few GTM objects that in version 10.x were stored in wideip.conf. In version 11.x, gtm config is stored in bigip_gtm.conf

    So whatever applies for GTM also applies to LC.

    If I create a few GTM objects - a datacenter, gtm server, gtm pool, and wideup, then create an SCF (save sys config file gtmtest), then inspect the resulting file /var/local/scf/gtmtest, I can see all the GTM commands are present in there.

    You could also use tmsh to list the config objects that you're interested in, and then use "load sys config merge from-terminal" on another BigIP to paste that config into it, without having to bother with editing the SCF
