BIG IP DNS Server Balance Inbound Links

Hi There Everyone

I'm having some bad time trying to find how to configure BIG IP as a DNS Server for Inbound Redundancy with more than one link connected to the BIG System.

Our customer needs to balance inbound and have redundancy in links using DNS. What exactly we need is to use BIG IP as DNS server and have two or more links with DNS resolution pointing to our applications inside BIG IP. In case one or more links fail we need to still have the DNS resolution for the others remaining links attached to the BIG IP system (so BIG IP is the DNS server and the links wills be attached to it).

For example:

Domain: example.com

Two links connected to big IP: Link1 - IP 10.10.10.10 Link2 - IP 20.20.20.20

Big IP DNS has two DNS A Record for portal.example.com translation to 10.10.10.10 and 20.20.20.20 in roud robin schema. In case the link1 fails BIG IP should only reply the DNS requests for the IP 20.20.20.20 since it is the only working at the moment.

Can someone confirm how can this be done? And more precisely, how?

  • Put a monitor on the Specific VS - Monitoring an egress IP address on the external facing router ?

Tear down the VS when not available.
