difference between Portal access resource and webtop links in full webtop

trying to find difference between Portal access resource and webtop links when used in same full webtop. Can someone help

  • I'd say the easiest way to differentiate them is to say that Webtop links are generally just additional links to applications that don't require and special processing by APM (e.g. a link to google.com, or a company's public website), wheras the Portal Access Resources are associated with ACLs (e.g. allow/deny based on uri) and rewrite profiles (where the APM will rewrite content on the pages to proxy requests through the APM).

  • One very specific difference is that Webtop links point directly to an external URL and when clicked the browser will connect directly to that site without passing through the BIG-IP at all (unless of course you have a Network Access tunnel without split tunneling). Whereas a Portal Access goes through the BIG-IP, and as Michael says the BIG-IP will rewrite content for that application.
