GTM - A record with underscore not working

Hi

i am trying to crate new A record which has underscore under domain (GTM 10.x Zon runner) but getting "update operation refused" error though i have enabled following option

Log in to the Configuration utility. Click System. Click General Properties (In BIG-IP 10.x, click Configuration). From the Global Traffic box, select General. From the Domain Validation box, select Allow Underscores. Click Update.

Can someone please help me to create new A record with underscore in GTM

THanks, Senthil

  • Hi,

underscore is not a FQDN valid character. so it is not possible to create a GTM A Record.

  • Well, I have a different view about that.

    abc_def.test_a.com.externaltest_a.com.500A40.40.40.40

I have just created the above A record in v13 unit. Both the hostname and the domain name has underscore. Maybe is a bug with the version you have, you something wrong with the zone itself.

The underscore is a valid character, as you can see in this solution:

    https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K7058

The configuration change you did is to allow the underscore in the wideips names, as per this solution:

    https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K8140

  • Thanks for the response. DId you make any config change to accept underscore in V13?

Do you know if v10.x supports underscore ?

No, I just created the zone and A record via GUI, in the ZoneRunner section. The solution K7058 applies from 10.0.0 until 11.5.1, so v10 supports underscore based in the solution.

  • Just as a side note, you should avoid using underscores in a domain name if it is intended to be used in a web application because Inernet Explorer has some known problems dealing with that.
