F5 LAB issue - Not able to browse to 10.1.0.145 as stated in cbt nuggets

F5 Lab issue. I have seen this asked before many times but none of the answers work for me. I must be missing something here. I have got to the part were I enter the 10.1.0.145 address in the virtual machine, then go to my internet explorer to https to the vm. This does not work. I must be missing something as I have installed this on 2 machines today with the same result.

  • Are you able to ping the 10.1.0.145 address from your PC?

I used VMware player but I had a similar issue. In VirtualBox make sure that VMnet1 Subnet settings is set to the 10.1.0.0 Subnet.

On my PC the VMnet1 Adapter has a static ip of 10.1.0.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Well I was wondering if the virtual adaptor should have an ip on it when viewing it rom the network settings on the windows 10 machine. I did try putting 10.1.0.1 at one point as a test to see if that helped. But it did not and I have not been able to ping the 10.1.0.145 address at any point on either PC that the lab is installed on. There must be something stupid I have missed. It cannot be this difficult to setup a LAB on a VM.

  • I just tried the following on my PC with VirtualBox.

Enable the VirtualBox Host-Only Network Adapter.

Give the Adapter the IP Address of 10.1.0.1 with a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0

On the BIG-IP in the config screen add a default route with an IP Address of 10.1.0.1

You should now be able to ping and browse the 10.1.0.145 address.
