BIG-IP 6900 EOL Notice question

The below is shown in F5 website:

Platform Platform NameEnd of Sale (EoS)End of New Software Support (EoNSS)End of Software Development (EoSD)End of Support Contract Renewal (EoSCR)End of RMA (EoRMA)End of Technical Support (EoTS) C102BIG-IP 1600 LC1-Feb-151-Feb-171-Feb-181-Feb-211-Feb-221-Feb-22 D104BIG-IP 69001-Feb-151-Feb-171-Feb-181-Feb-211-Feb-221-Feb-22

"After the EoSD date, February 1, 2018, F5 will not be able to provide software fixes for any technical issues, and F5 will continue to provide technical support for the BIG-IP 3900, 6900, 89xx, and Link Controller 1600 platforms on a best-effort basis."

https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K4309

"Extended Support begins with the platform EoSD announcement date. After the platform EoSD effective date, F5 is no longer liable to provide security updates, software fixes (hotfixes), or consulting services for that specified product.During the Extended Support phase, F5 will typically continue to offer "reasonable effort" technical support and RMA services and on occasion may offer a customer access to certain software updates which may include security or stability-related software releases."

My question is,

Do we have to undergo a hardware upgrade for the BIG-IP 6900/1600 by Feb, 2018 ?.

Thank-you.

  • Based on the lifecycle policy you can still purchase and have some type of support after EoSD. But in my opinion lack of security updates and bug fixes in the EoSD and beyond would be a big concern for a production device.

I certainly can't tell you what to do in your situation as every environment is different. You can get support, although perhaps limited, after EoSD. But can your environment accept the risk of not being routinely updated with security fixes?
