CirrusWe are small company and guy most of time used hardware, We need few F5 in our company and found couple of companies. one of them i talked and they said it has pre-installed Licensed (for TPS) but we can't get support. also i heard if you don't have RegKey then you can't re-install OS so i am confused. what i should ask and what is the best way to get used F5 product. Any suggestion or tips?
NacreousMost second hand F5's are usually approaching EOL. This means you will not be able to get updated software or support for them. If however you do get a recent one then you need a support contract with F5 for the product to get software updates or to contact them for support. Their may be a true-up amount you need to pay since you were not the original owner. I would suggest you get in touch with F5 support prior to purchasing and ask them. You must make sure it comes pre-licensed or its worthless. Also check with F5 support if the license can be transferred to your ownership.
CirrusI heard F5 support won't take other folks TPS license so you to pay for new license for support it cost tons of hard cash money.
I am not worried about support because we have existing F5 and since last 5 year we never ever call or any support our design is very simple just SSL offload no fancy need or feature need.
all i want to save some money, my big worry whether i can upgrade software etc or not. If i can upgrade it then nothing to worry. But i will talk to support to see what they suggest
NacreousInside your /config/bigip.license file will be a Service Check date. You will not be able to install software released after that date without refreshing your license and you cannot do that without a support agreement.
