Upgradtion of the version

Hi, I am using the F5 LTMs 2000s with the OS version 11.2.1 and i want to upgrade to the stable version. Does any Reactivation of license is required after the up gradation?

If the F5 LTMs are in the high availability and one the system is upgraded does this cause any impact on the HA ? Kindly help me in that. thanks.

  • You should reactivate your license before starting the upgrade process.

While the HA partners are at different software levels, you will be able to fail over, but you cannot perform a configsync until they are both upgraded.

  • According to article K7727, every software version has an associated license check date. This is verified against the service check date, which is the most recent time you have (re-)activated the BIG-IP system license.

This is why you should always reactivate the system license before beginning an installation or upgrade.

License check date must be older than Service check date before upgrading. There is a good chance of configuration failure without this condition.

From CLI, run command “tmsh show sys license” (without quotes) to see your license and service check date.

To re-activate a license, go to device GUI you want to upgrade(standby device) and system --> license and re-activate button at the bottom of the page. This will let you re-activate license and hence license check date will be older than service check date. (tmsh show sys license).

You can continue with your next steps to upgrade..(hope you have a implementation plan). After upgrading standby device and making it active(failover) , do the same thing on other device.
