Auto Last Hop

Hello guys! How's everybody doing?! Hopefully awesome!

I'm trying to understand the implications of auto last hop on my environment. My question is:

What would happen if after a connection has been established if BIG-IP receives packets from that connection with a source-mac different from the one that is on the connection table? Would it drop the traffic? Would it take the traffic and answer to the original last hop (the mac that is on the connection table)? Would it take the traffic and answer to the new source-mac and update the table?

Thanks! Rafael

  • Connections are based on TCP/UDP and IP address sockets. The MAC address used in auto last hop is used to make routing decisions without the need for having a route in the routing table.

So to answer your question, providing the source IP is the same, the connection will remain in the table.
