Which interfaces to use when TRUNKING.

I have an i4800 Big-IP and will be setting up LACP between it and my Cisco 3850's using the Gig SFP ports. Since the ports on the Big-IP are grouped together with 4 ports in each group. Is better to TRUNK with both port in the same group, or 1 port from each group. Some architectures have separate processors and buses to allow better performance and I cannot find any documentation on F5's site detailing this.

  • You shouldn't see any significant performance gains or losses from using ports in one cluster versus one from each. They should connect to the same internal bus (I don't have a block diagram for this unit, so I can't 100% confirm that).

I would suggest that you pick the ports that make the most sense from a cable management standpoint.
