BIG-IP VE Software Image for vCloud

Does anyone know the functional difference between the VE software titled "Image fileset for VMware ESX/i Server", (BIGIP-13.0.0.2.0.1671.ALL-scsi.ova) and the VE software titled "Image fileset for vCloud Director" (BIGIP-13.0.0.2.0.1671.ALL-vCloud.zip)? I'm currently have a GTM/LTM VE built in vCloud and I'm using the VMware ESX/i image, seems to be working fine. Should I be using the vCloud Director image instead? Will I run into any issues using the VMware ESX/i image within vCloud as opposed to the VMware ESX/i Server image I used?

  • It should not make a difference. vCloud director orchestrates vcenter, but I was not able to find any significant differences between the two images in our documentation. I'm sure that there are things in the vcloud image that help it to work with vcloud, but given what vcloud does it does not surprise me that you could run an ESXi image without issue.

I wish I could be more concrete, but hope that helps set your mind at ease.
