Virtual server as a pool member

Hello,

Having a virtual server on the internal bigip as a pool member for another virtual server on another external bigip, can I use the same http monitor for both? Or do I have to use a tcp monitor for the external virtual server(pool)?

I made a simple test, and the health check didn't work out(even with the default http) for the external virtual server, but with tcp and destination port it worked.

Thank you in advance,

Kai

  • Yes, you can use HTTP monitor. Please run the curl from internal F5 and post the results.

    curl -v external-f5-vip

  • Depends on how the internal F5 VS is configured compared to its pool members.

If you are doing HTTPS off load then the external F5 would need to use a HTTPS monitor but the connection string and response could be the same.

Also the page you are monitoring internally may not be allowed from the external F5.

Difficult to say without knowing more about the environment.

  • Hey,

    thank you both for answering!

    Gurus:

I switched the default http monitor with a custom monitor(with send and recv string),

    and it worked...

I always thought the default monitor was the "broader" one, so I am a bit confused.

    Thanks for the information.

Yes I know there wasn't enough information for you to point out the problem,

but luckily it all worked out.

    Best,
