Exchange 2010 SMTP Hybrid with F5 (Preserve Source IP)

Hi,

We need to configure a Load Balancer configuration for SMTP traffic to Exchange 2010 Hub transport servers for setting up the hybrid with O365 which will use TLS to secure SMTP connection to O365.

As per the requirement for hybrid setup, it is required that the Load balancer should preserve the source IP of the incoming SMTP traffic, so how should we setup the F5 load balancer so that the source IP is preserved and the Hub transport servers always sees the connection from O365 IP's and not the F5 IP.

  • Did you ever get an answer to your question? We are running into the same configuration challenge.

    thanks

  • that would mean you shouldn't enable source address translation on the virtual server.

the downside is that you F5 has to be the default gateway for you exchange server because else the traffic won't return via the F5.
