F5 Active Stand by Sync config - order

Hello Guys, I have two nodes F5 (Active Standby Mode ) with manual Sync. I logged into the Standby F5 and made the following Changes like adding Routes and adding additional nodes and adding those nodes to existing pool members. Now the current state show like this. F5 Node A Online (Active) Changes Pending.

F5 Node B Online(Standby). Changes Pending

How do I sync these two server. They are not automatically sync configured. In the device sync what is the order do i need to follow so that I do not override the changes made in stand by node. Does order matter. DO i need to sync on both server. Regards SP

  • When you're on the sync page there's options to sync from either device to group. Sync from the device that has changes on it to the group. Its different between versions but it is a little confusing the way the page is written.

On a good note, you haven't changed anything to the config of the traffic device, so you could also just make the changes on that device and overwrite your standby device. Typically I recommend making changes on the active and syncing to standby.

Also, you mention adding routes. If those are TMM routes on the device, you'll want to add that separately as it won't get synced. If you sync without adding a static route on the other device, those pool members won't be accessible.

  • Best practice is always perform changes on active device. If you did the changes on standby

go to Device Management ›› Overview >> select standby device >> select Sync device to group

select overrite configuration and then click Sync

Please make sure you take UCS backups before any changes in your environment.
