Which VS profile for L-B proxy servers

Hello dear f5 community

We have a F5 ltm load-balancing 2 proxy Servers (Symantec-Bluecoat) and our users informed that they have a serious latency/slowness issues when web browsing.

We used to connect directly to our old main proxy appliance (hence no ltm here) and our users had no real slowness issues.

We suspect that we are not using the right profile for the VS. We have the default one but we are wondering whether we should use the Perf L4 or the HTTP one.

We read a lot on it and it seemed that Perf L4 is actually not very appropriate for load balancing proxies, but since the default profile is not working properly, we do not know what profile to use.

Can someone advice us on the profile to use ?

Thanks very much for your help.

F5 ltm: BIG-IP 13.0.0 Build 0.0.1645 Final Proxy: model ASG-S400-30 version ASG 6.7.3.6

  • Hello Roger,

You're probably right about the performance profiles; they're usually pretty situational and can drastically limit your options for processing traffic. The default HTTP profile should work fine.

There are a couple different other troubleshooting methods you could try. The first might be some sort of packet capture like a tcpdump. This would help give you an idea of where the latency in your network is really being injected.

    Best of luck,
