active/standby on different levels

running some vCMP guest on two Viprions at different L2 connected locations. created HA pairs between the two locations. but it seems i now have active / standby on different levels and it is possible to create unworkable situations.

there is the active device within the device group, but there is also the active location for the traffic group and possibility to set a preempt for the traffic group. but in this way the traffic group can end up on a standby device, im i missing something here?

  • hi boneyard,

I believe that a device in standby mode will just become active if a traffic group fails over to it.

  • because of the reply from Thomas i tried this again and now indeed the device status (active / standby) changes with the traffic-group status, unsure what went wrong the first time i tried this, but this is more what i expected.

i thought that i could have independent statuses of device group and traffic group, but that isnt the case.

    thanks Thomas and nitass.
