Big-IP LTM/APM RDS RemoteApp

Hello we would like to use APM to publish RDS RemoteApps to the webtop for several of our users. Unfortunately reading over the following guide does not seem to provide all the help we need to get this working.

https://www.f5.com/content/dam/f5/corp/global/pdf/deployment-guides/microsoft-remote-desktop-gateway-dg.pdf

Are we really needing to create a Virtual server and then also an Access Policy? Can we skip the Virtual server setup?

Do we need to use the updated iApp? Do we need to proxy or perform bridging or offloading?

We just need a simple setup of presenting a remoteapp to users to access. Any help or information is much appreciated!!

  • pretty much everything on the big-ip with which users communicate requires a virtual server, so yes you need that and you need to add a APM policy for authentication and calling the Remote Apps.

the guide you are using is more meant for load balancing a full RDS farm and perhaps replacing the gateway part. but it won't guide you in just publishing a webtop with the RemoteApps.

you bought your big-ip somewhere, can that company perhaps help? if you are doing this without any big-ip experience it might get tricky.

  • Thanks that is what I thought.

Unfortunately we do not have that kind of support from the vendor. Looks like I will be requesting some training funding.

For now we did find a way to get things working but not the way we originally planned.

  • ah that is a shame, big-ip is a nice product, but the learning curve can be steep if you are just thrown into it.

training can be useful, there are some free online resources also that might be useful to start with. search around dev central for other suggestions.
