DCD for BIG-IQ

Hi All,

I am getting ready to deploy a VE of BIG-IQ for about 12 BIG-IP systems, and read about using Data Collection Devices's for the data collection, but can't find out at what point is a DCD required? e.g. do you need to have alot of alerts from the devices, at what number of devices is a DCD required, how many DCDs would be required etc.

  • DCDs can (currently) be used to log/query data from ASM, APM and FPS (Fraud Protection), not from LTM/DNS/AFM. The DCDs retain data for much longer periods of time than can be logged on the individual systems.

As to number of DCDs, that depends on the level of logging you have configured in the relevant products, and the length of historical data.

For a start, I'd suggest configuring 2 DCDs, and monitor from there for CPU load and disk space.

  • I am in process of installing DCD agent, however I can't find any documents for best practice. I am in need for how do in VM's level.

  • Hi, can i use a DCD to check and review a ASM Support ID from the monitored BIG-IP's?
