BIG IP 1500 GUI Slow

I have 2 1500 appliances that are setup in an active/passive pair. The response time navigating the gui interface seems fine but when I try to apply a change it brings up the lost connection page and spins for a while then reconnects. This appears to be abnormal behavior to me. The system dashboard shows that the resources are well within tolerance and the applications through the device seem to perform fine. I haven't found anything too abnormal except for on the stats page for one of the interfaces the Inbound Drop packets grows at a very fast rate. I did a tcpdump from the cli and viewed it with wireshark. I filtered on lost segments and found that all the dropped packets were from "TCP ACKed unseen segment" a quick google search brought up some sites stating that this is an issue with the tcpdump just not placing the packet to disk. I don't think this is the case in my situation. Any help would be appreciated.

  • we had the same issues on our 8950s, it was due to a VERY LARGE configuration see bug The GUI unresponsiveness is a symptom of 'ID410285 - tmsh consumes lots of cpu when saving large configurations'. This is fixed in v11.5.0. i upgraded to 11.5.1 hf2 and it fixed it. 35 sec savw time to 8 seconds and hot fix 3 is our! good luck

He probably can't update it to that version though unless he has the one with bigger RAM. Some 1500s are a bit too weak. :( /Patrik

ug, ok well it just started doing it, but I haven't updated for awhile, I am on 11.3 HF5. I am just gun shy of some of these updates, when I updated to 11.0 I had some major issues and was hating life.

  • I feel the pain, I have to update 12 8950s but since your on version 1 it shouldn't be that bad. run your qkview through ihealth to look for possible issues

SO until I have a maintenance window to upgrade, what about these Drops that I am getting, I need a little direction on troubleshooting those. I have tcpdumps and I am seeing drops, they all look to be related to a SNAT address I have setup for one of my Virtual Servers.
