GTM Virtual Server Pool Migration

Hi There,

I'm pretty new to F5 GTM. Have a question on a live setup. I have a live FQDN hosted in GTM with generic host IP address as the pool members. I noticed, under the generic host only one virtual server is created with service port any (0). The pool is also configured with health monitoring on a port 9001. Recently had an issue as the backed team was using the FQDN and they were using port 5004 to connect to the FQDN and the service 5004 is down and due to health monitor is on different port the pool didn't fail over.

For this I planned the below implementation actions

  1. Under the generic host create different virtual servers for different ports
  2. Create separate pools for separate virtual server (based on the service ports) with appropriate health monitoring
  3. Add those pools under the Wide IP FQDN.

I believe with this when we connect to the FQDN on a specific port the service will be redirected to appropriate pool based on the service port. correct me if I'm wrong.

First and foremost is this approach is correct? If wrong please highlight my mistakes.

Since this is a live FQDN we plan to migrate the the service port one by one. Since we already have one pool with service port 0, will GTM allow us to add pools with the same member but with different pool members [ i.e. service port set to non-zero (eg:-5004)].

Similarly also under the generic host we already have a virtual server set to port any (0), will GTM allow us to add virtual servers with the same IP address and service port set to non-zero (eg:-5004)

Thanks in Advance

Romeo
