Can Auto Fail-over feature be disabled for Priority groups ?

Scenario:

1) two priority groups, 50 and 100. with 2 servers in each groups and min-active-members set to 2

2) if members in priority groups 100 go down, the LTM will start sending traffic to servers from priority group 50

3) when servers in priority group 100 come up LTM will send all the new connections to priority groups 100.

Can the auto-failover feature in step 3 be disabled ? the requirement is the LTM should continue to send traffic to servers from PG 50 even though servers in PG 100 are up till the time the servers in PG 50 go down.

Is there a way to achieve this functionality ?

  • Hi Red,

it's already the case. your active sessions (in progress) remain on priority groups 50 even if your pool with PG 100 is up. And all the new connections will go through the PG 100. from the point of view of the user it is completely transparent.

I also see that there is a configuration that does not make sense.

You set min-active-members set to 2

Why you don't set 1? this allows you to not activate the PG 50 as long as a server is still UP in the PG 100.

    regards

    Hello Youssef,

I am aware that the existing connection will continue to be serviced by servers from PG50, but the requirement is the new connections should go to servers from PG 50 even after the servers in PG 100 come up. Only when servers in PG 50 go offline the LTM should send traffic to servers from PG 100. For this to happen the auto failover feature should be disabled, want to know if this is possible.

      Hi,

      sorry for the delate.

So in a native way it is not possible. the functionality of the PG works as I have described to you...

if you want to do that I guess you can do it with an irue but it will be complex and may cause edge effects on the app...

keep me in touch if you need more details.

      regards
