VCMP Guests HA pair with diffrent software code

Hello Guys, I need your urgent suggestion on following scenario. We already have one 5250v LTM appliance running with software code : VCMP Host BIGIP-11.5.3.0.0.163 , VCMP Guests :- BIGIP-11.6.0.0.0.401 .

Now we have brought another same LTM (5250v) for HA since it's running standalone , Further when I checked and found that software code for this LTM appliance are different then existing LTM active unit , Which are VCMP Hosts and VCMP Guests :- (Initial image) BIGIP-11.5.4.0.0.256 (Hotfix) Hotfix-BIGIP-11.5.4.1.0.286-HF1 .

So now my questions. How can I do HA pair with current software images if yes then please confirm .

  • Hi there-

The code versions on the Viprion hosts should be the same but it's not 100% mandatory.

The code versions on the vCMP guests acting in an HA pair MUST be the same. I would upgrade the vCMP guest on the second host to 11.6.0.0.0.401 then sync.

Eventually, you should have both Viprion hosts running at the same code level.

  • Device group members (vCMP guests) must run the same version, otherwise they will not be able to failover (config sync is possible for small deviations, though).

vCMP host versions MAY differ from each other since the vcmp hosts are configured (and run) as standalone units as you noted correctly. It is not recommended though.

There are certain restrictions concerning the vcmp host/guest software compatibility which you can find in this solution guide: https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K14088

Anyway, I would suggest upgrading at least the guests to a newer version. 11.6.0 is out of support for quite a while by now - see https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K5903
