Check status of LTM (activ/standby) but not with snmp

Hi guys, we would like to automate our deployment, but for this we need to know which unit is activ. Our nagios do that with snmp and works fine. But our deploy Server should not be dependent from snmp. Is there maybe an API we can use? I know we can use tmsh via ssh, but this mean we have to install a public key on the unit and after an update we lost this key. So we are looking for better way. Would be great if anyone can help us.

Thx in advance

  • Jeep that works fine, but it's only running as user "Administrator". So it is a security problem for me :-(. Is there any change to get the Info without admin rights?

  • Hi a found the answer by myself :-) The Solution is to configure a floating management IP!

To create a floating management IP, follow the steps below:

Navigate to the active BIG-IP system and login to the management console and configuration utility (TMUI). This action may require admin role privileges.

Select Network from the Main tab and then Self IPs. Select Create…

Enter a Name for the new self IP, an IP Address and Netmask combination, and set the VLAN / Tunnel option to external. If the vlan is not labeled, use the VLAN configured for the Management IP subnet.

Set the Port Lockdown selection to Allow Custom. Select the Port button and define enter the protocol used for the management interface. (Default value of 443) Click Add to add this port to the TCP and the UDP Custom List.

For the Traffic Group selection, select the floating traffic group used between the BIG-IP systems.

Click Finished to save the New Self IP configuration.
