GTM design - Single LTM HA Pair split across two Data Centres

Hi,

I have two GTMs and two LTMs configured as a HA pair split evenly across two different Data Centres and a fibre connection between the LTMs to create the internal network.

We are taught that in GTM configuration each Server object can only belong to one Data Centre.

How are people dealing with the limitation of only being able to place a Server (I'm talking about GTM object) of Type BIG-IP redundant pair into one Single Data Centre object when in fact each member of the LTM HA Pair is in two separate locations serrviced by different ISPs? What kind of issues is this causing you?

I see a potential issue with distributed applications where you may want to make its availability dependent on link availability.

Any thoughts?

  • Hi Wire,

I'm no GTM expert, but couldn't you define a single datacentre if there is a layer 2 link between them and both LTM units are in the same HA pair? You can then deal with the various links into the separate physical datacentres as separate links out of a single logical datacentre. Or am I missing something in the scenario?

Do you have a simple MS Visio draw that shows general your setup?
