Big-IQ

Is anyone using the Big-IQ in their environment and what kind of experience are you having. I have deployed a POC in my lab environment, and am seeing some strange issues. I am running 4.5.0 build 0.0.7028

  1. I don't seem to be able to add a route to the Big-IQ itself through the System menu. I did it via tmsh which was fine but I am just curious if it was removed from the GUI.

  2. I have a stand alone ASM that is running 11.5.2 HF1 that I got managed under Device, but when I tried to add it in Web Application Security I got a message saying it wasn't supported. Even though the documentation says that version should be supported.

  3. I also have another device running 11.4.1 HF7 that I could not even get discovered with Device.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences on Big-IQ they could share with me. It looks like a very cool product I am just having some trouble getting it off the ground.

i do not remember if it was there in prior version or not. anyway, i do not use tmm interface (i.e. i use only mgmt interface). beginning from 4.5.0, mgmt interface can be used to discover and manage bigip device.

So are you saying to have the Big-IQ discover itself and then manage the route through Device in the web gui?

sorry to confuse. no, i set mgmt ip and mgmt route through "config" command in cli. i do not use tmm interface (selfip) and tmm route at all.

  • I had the same issue. The BigIQ GUI and documentation is abysmal.

They seem to have jumped straight to management of other devices and forgot about putting in features to manage BigIQ itself. I have tried to add routes via the Device GUI but it requires you to add the BigIQ as a device and that fails with a duplicate device error. This reminds me of the old 9.0, 9.1 BigIP days where you had to do a lot of things on the command line to get the device setup.

I used the TMSH route.. tmsh create net route default network 0.0.0.0/0 gw x.x.x.x
