HA Cluster with VIPRION B2100 and i4800

Hi Experts, I know we can achieve HA with different F5 Platforms, Virprion B2100 blades & i4800 if both are on the same TMOS version. I have never tried this practically and am very skeptical about it, as i will be working in a Live environment. Is there any one that has done this practically and it worked?

 

I will appreciate any support and experience gathered.

    Remember that the B2100 has reached EoNSS and is running TMOS v11.6.3 while the i4800 can not be downgraded beyond TMOS 12.1.1.

     

    At this point is it possible upgrade the B2100 to TMOS v12.1.1 without any issues so I can achieve HA with i4800?

    Hi Hillaryu, based on https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K9476, B2100 can support next versions11.5.0 - 11.5.6, 11.6.0 - 11.6.3, 12.0.0 - 12.1.3, 13.0.0 - 13.1.0

     

    So, you can bring both boxes to the identical versions.

     

    You can create HA across different platforms, but be aware that

     

    1. Mirror option will not work for you due to different DAG used across the platforms.
    2. Your weakest box need to be able to handle all the traffic which can be handled by the strongest box

    Agree with @surgeon points. I strongly suggest not to play with production environment, because lot of come-up related to packet processing, VIP behavior, SSL transaction etc, as we have faced. If you have test environment then try and update us.
