Load Balancing Servers With F5 and Oracle OHS

Hi Experts,

I am in an environment where an Oracle OHS was load balancing Servers and caching static content at the Internal segment, until F5 got introduced in the environment, the customer at this point wants OHS to still be left to serve as the web server for the backend servers while F5 load balances the traffic to the back end.

My question: How will the F5 be configured to work with the OHS? DNS - F5 VIP - OHS VIP - Internal servers?

DNS - OHS VIP - F5 VIP - Internal Servers?

DNS - F5 VIP - Internal Servers + OHS VIP?

DNS - F5 VIP - Internal Servers?

I need assistance.

thanks

  • Hi,

I am not familiar with OHS, but I know that is a Web server as apache!!!

If your backend server don't need OHS to work, you can do without for the following reason:

    • with F5 you can manage advance LB.
    • you can manage persistence, Inteligent Health check
    • you can do compression, acceleration (caching) ...

And especially you have a point of failure in less. you have no interest in cascading 2 solutions. unless you have a technical imperative.

In all case I advise you to Place F5 in Frontal (For possible evolutions):

    • APM : perimeter security
    • ASM : WAF (ddos protection)
    • hardware compression (If you have hardware device)
    • SSL Interception (Hardware too, if you have hardware device).
    • ...

If you need more details or you want to focus on some points keep me update.

    Regards
