This is an old thread, but in case someone else stumbles across it looking for source control solutions... The only "good" method of source control that I've found is to migrate VIP resources to AS3 or FAST code. If you pair your Visual Studio Code app to an Azure Repository, you gain source control, allowing you to add comments whenever you make a change to the code, and quickly view and compare current code to old code, and revert to old code. The downside is that all changes have to be done through code since that would be the new source of truth, and the GUI would just be for viewing/troubleshooting config.
I'm assuming this would work the same with a Git Repository as well if you don't have an Azure Repo.
