If you have console access you should be able to log in and see if you can ping the default gateway or ping your workstation. If you can't that explains the problem.
SOL Article 13369 has info about the initial configuration steps via console. From the console type "config". That will launch the initial configuration wizard that walks you through configuring the management interface. Make sure you supply the default gateway as the default route.
- sk2014_160273Jun 09, 2014NimbostratusThanks Steve, I had default gateway setup as: 10.157.102.251. I tried pinging it but I am getting this error message: From 10.157.102.201 icmp_seq=91 Destination Host Unreachable. What does this mean ? What could be the problem here ?
- Steve_M__153836Jun 09, 2014NimbostratusWhat is your default gateway on your workstation? Whatever you have there for the default gateway is what you want to have on the F5 as well. I would assume you can ping the default gateway from your workstation. If you cannot ping the default gateway from the F5 then there is something wrong in the config of the network interface; likely on the hypervisor (VMware) side. There really isn't much to configuration of the mgmt interface on the F5.
- sk2014_160273Jun 09, 2014NimbostratusI have the same default gateway on my machine i.e. 10.157.102.251. and yes, I can ping it from my machine. I will check config on network interface and will post my findings here. Thanks for your help !
- sk2014_160273Jun 10, 2014NimbostratusI checked with network engineer and he said that network configuration on the VSXi (VMWare) looks good. All network interfaces have been setup correctly but still I can't access default gateway from F5 VM. He thinks that it is something in the VM e.g. firewall etc inside F5 VM is blocking the traffic. Traffic is not leaving the VM. Are there any firewall settings or any network settings that could affecting this ? if yes, how to turn them OFF/ unblock them from command Console (black console) ?
- Steve_M__153836Jun 10, 2014NimbostratusThere shouldn't be anything affecting traffic to and from the management interface on the F5 itself. It seems that something within the VMware environment is not configured correctly. If you have no config on it you may want to try redeploying from the .ova file or having the VMware administrator disconnect and reconnect the NIC (maybe it didn't ARP for some reason).
