Simple monitor IP question

I'm configuring a pair of active/standby F5s running 9.4.7 to load balance Adobe ConnectPro.

All monitors are reporting down and I suspect it's a Firewall issue, but had better make sure I haven't got my bit wrong.

Am I right in thinking that the health monitors, which run on ports 80, 1935, 443, 8443 and icmp, all come from just the floating self-ip of each F5? I've asked for all 3 self-ips, that is the individual self-ip of each F5 and the floating self-ip they share, be given access to the Connect servers.

Sound OK?

  • LTM will source monitor traffic from the static (non-shared) self IP address(es) on the same VLAN as the servers. You can use tcpdump to check what's happening:

tcpdump -nni 0.0 host SERVER_IP and host STATIC_SELF_IP
