HA Active/Active Operational Feedback

Greetings,

 

 

Due to some issues that we intermittently experience with very high load on a pari of LTM 3900's, running in active/standby mode, I am considering switch the HA mode from active/standby to active/active. The problem is I do not have any lab boxes to play with and am a bit worried about potential problems that maybe associated with running active/active deployment in production.

 

 

 

So I was hoping that the folks on here that currently have boxes running in active/active mode could share some of their experiences on the topic in regards to gotchas and management issues.

 

 

 

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Jaimes - What version of software are you running? You can move to an active / active setup for either 10.x or 11.x. One main thing to keep in mind is resources. Keep in mind that in an active / active setup if one member fails, all the objects in that traffic group fail to the other member. Over time, what happens is that folks add more and more Virtual Servers to each traffic group to the point that upon failover, the one member is overloaded, and then you experience a sitewide outage.

    Currently running 10.2.2 on the boxes. That was one my concerns with out of sight out mind scenario. I was afraid that if we went active active more VIPs would be added and then when a failover scenario occurred the one box would be overwhelmed.
