VSs on Active/Active Deployment

Hi,

I´m really interested in knowing how to configure a Virtual Server (VS) in an Active/Active (A/A) configuration:

Should we configure this VS on each F5 of the A/A pair ?

How can I associate a VS to an specific F5 of the A/A Deployment?......

Regards,

Apradas.

PD: Our Loaded images on the F5s are BIG-IP LTM Version 11.2.0 HF1.

  • Hi Apradas,

Well I am sure you are not aware of the traffic-group concept offered by F5. This is indeed a wonderful concept which enables you to set some of the VS active on one unit and some on the other. In case of unit failure the traffic group makes those VS avaliable on the other unit. I prefer you search on Ask F5 the traffic group and configuration of failover units.

  • Hi,

I´m not very experienced in these new V11/F5 topics, but I think I understand the traffic-group concept, in fact I´ve just solved the problem.

A Virtual Address (like a Self-Ip-Address) have to be created, for each VirtualServer (VS) which is desired to be activated on a particular F5 unit. The new Virtual Address must be equal to the VS IP address. You can´t associate a VS with a traffic-group, however you can do that between a Virtual Address and a traffic-group (Configuration Utility -> Network/SelfIPs). I think this is the key....The related F5 documerntation isn´t clear, I didn´t find other easy way to get it...:-(

I hope this can be useful for other F5 users.

    Thank you, anyways.
