Simple example with two separate networks

Hello there,

I'm realy new with this kind of equipment (BIG IP 3900, 11.2.0) and I need example of configuration so I can start with learning.

I have two networks 192.168.20.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24, I attach this networks to interface 1.2 and 1.5. Interface 1.2 is local LAN network and 1.5 is LAN in another branch office.

My task for now is to make connection of this two network so they can communicate. After that I must apply some iRules on specific request in this network communication.

I add SelfIP to both LAN 192.168.20.100/255.255.255.0 and 192.168.2.100/255.255.255.0 (both are traffic group local only).

What is the next steps?

Thanks!

If there some knowledge base with simple examples please give some links because I can't find it.

  • What exactly are you looking to do? Do you just want to route between networks or are you planning to setup virtual servers for web traffic or sonething similar? Where are the real servers, on the local LAN?

  • Hello,

The real servers are on the LAN, for the first step I need only routing. Next step will be setup of virtual servers in order to apply iRules.

    Thanks,

  • OK, no problem, you need a 'routing' Virtual Server. See about half way down this article for how to do it: http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/7000/500/sol7595.html?sr=24070250
  • Wildcard forwarder.

    Address 0.0.0.0

    Mask - 0.0.0.0

Enable on all VLANs, if you want the packets to flow....

You can then restrict with irules or packet filters.Be sure to use the self-IPs on the LTM as gateways.
