LTM SSL TPS

Hello,

Can someone confirm if only the client-side SSL TPS are counted towards the total SSL TPS licensing limit or are both the client-side and the server-side SSL TPS counted?

All the info I've seen states only the client-side, but it would be nice to get that confirmed. Thanks.

Each BIG-IP system is licensed to provide a maximum number of client-side SSL transactions per second (TPS).

  • Hi Bob,

SSL TPS connections are only counted for Client-Side SSL Connections.

You can also refer to SOL4415: Overview of SSL encryption and decryption licensing.

BIG-IP licenses include a limit on the number of SSL transactions per second that BIG-IP can decrypt. This license applies only to the client side of the transaction. Re-encryption and succeeding decryption are not counted against the license limit.

For example, if your BIG-IP is licensed for 1000 TPS, BIG-IP receives 500 new SSL sessions from clients, and then re-encrypts the sessions, this will count as only 500 TPS against the license limit.
