iControl authentication

Can local accounts be defined to the LTM for use by systems accessing the LTM only via iControl. I have all my user accounts using Radius, but would like to create a local account for the remote systems making iControl calls.

  • I'm not an expert on authorization configuration. iControl uses the same authentication mechanism as the GUI. If you can configure a user in the GUI as local when you are using remote authentication then iControl should be able to use it.

I'd suggest contacting F5 Product Support for product configuration questions. I'm sorry to pass the buck but I'd rather you get correct information and product support is the correct place to go for product configuration questions at this point.

We'd be glad to help you out with API usage questions though, so if any of those come up, please do let us know...

Thanks.. I have already spoken with F5 Support regarding this issue. It appears that it is an either/or setup. If you have radius it is for all accounts. Anyway, the only reason I posted here is that I thought I saw an entry speaking about a separate account db for iControl access. I wasn't sure where it be, or how it would work, but I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks for the support. This site is great! I wish the regular F5 website had as much information.
  • Oh well... I'll ask around to see if there is any back door for local auth creation but I don't believe there is.

We are working on the information architecture of our sites and any and all feedback is much appreciated. Also, any ways you think DevCentral can be better for you would help us in future site design and planning.
