Who minds the store?

An application team has decided that a BigIP implementation will solve their high availability requirements, but don't seem interested in managing and administering the devices. In your organizations, who is responsible for configuration and maintenance of BigIPs? Network, Windows Server spport, Unix server support, Web support, Application support, other, all of the above?

  • Network at my shop controls the device, but we do open up limited access to the application teams to up/down their services.
  • Overall it seems to be most common for the network operations group to manage the BigIP systems. Some server folks manage them as well but it's less common, at least from what I've seen.

That said, the administrative partitions available in version 9.4 and above makes it easy to hand off some of the management to various groups.
