Monitoring MS Exchange Services...

Got a quick question for the F5 LTM gurus out there... I made a simple ASP webpage that posts a handful of services I want to monitor via HTTP. When I go to the webpage (requires a valid username and password in order to view) I get the following result back:

imap4svcrunningMSExchangeMGMTrunningMSexchangeMTArunningPOP3SvcrunningRESvcrunningMSexchangeSArunning

How can I tell the LTM monitor to use that as a valid UP statement and any deviation from that would be considered a NODE down? Mind you, I got this F5 LTM thing dropped on my lap over the course of the week so please be gentle with me. I'm still learning as I go along...

Thanks,

Los

  • Thanks for the great insight, Aaron!

Now, I will go ahead and try to configure this on my LTM but if I run into any problems, are there any utilities or logging I can enable to see what exactly is going on and where it's dying?

  • Man, thank goodness I didn't even have to go that far... I plopped in the first send string you suggested, plopped in my receive string... applied my credentials via the LTM and... it works!

Thanks a bunch, Aaron! I would have taken me a REALLY long time to figure this one out. Hopefully, by showing the upper management how flexible the LTM is, I can twist their arms into training....

  • That's good to hear.

If you do need to enable debug or test more complicated monitors, take a look at this thread (Click here).

    Have fun with your LTM.
