iControl and BIR-IP version issue

I already asked you the question about the problem im having with different version issue.

I "thought" the version issue only matter with the iControl library itself.

I "thought" as long as I use the newst version of iControl, I would be fine.

It turns out... I "thought" wrong!

It seems to me, the version of BIG-IP is already set. So no matter what version

of iControl library that I use, I cannot use any of API method which requires

higher version of BIG-IP than the version of BIG-IP that I already have.

In other words, it won't matter even if I have 9.6.0 version of iControl.

If I have a BIG-IP ver 9.3, then I am not ganna be able to use the full performance

of ver 9.6.0 iControl library. Isn't that right?

(QUESTION)

HOW DO I UPDATE THE VERSION OF MY BIG-IP SERVER?

(please refer to the attached img)

what do I do? hotfix patch?

  • You are correct. The iControl library is the client proxy stubs for a specific product version. Let's say it's at 9.6.0 as of the latest release. Then it will support all versions of BIG-IP up to 9.6.0 with the methods that are available on that product version. If you have a version 9.0 of BIG-IP there is no way a client library can magically make server implementations appear for methods that are not implemented on the product.

As for upgrading, that will depend on your support contract. You'll have to go through the normal support channels to request a product upgrade.
