Problem with RTP packets and NAT

Hi,

We have a media server behind a virtual server with a rtsp profile. We have enabled NAT on the media server side. With the help of tcpdump we've noticed that the client receives all the rtsp and rtcp packets but not the rtp packets, while the media server sends them normally. For some reason the LB drops the rtp packets. By disabling NAT on the pool with the media servers, the traffic is normal. Does anyone know why LB drops the RTP packets?

  • I'd suggest removing the NAT and replacing it with a one to one virtual server using the NAT IP for the virtual IP and a pool containing just the single server. If you want to allow connections on all ports, specify any for the virtual server port.

NATs are generally the least secure and configurable method of passing traffic through LTM. And they are more prone to conflicting with other configuration objects.
