Action down on service "Reselect"?

We have an LTM 8400 with 9.4.3 and we are testing out a new setting on action down on service "Reselect" and notice that concurrent active connections do not switchover to the active pool member (In detail it remains connected on the down member). From the description it indicates that this should work as expected. Is there a contigency when using this feature?

Use "Reselect" when the client can continue with a new server seamlessly. The request in play at the time of state transition may be lost, so the client will need to be able to recover gracefully to use this option successfully.

  • Hi JC,

As a matter I'd suggest upgrading to 9.4.7 with the latest hotfix. There is a known issue in 9.4.3 and lower where this functionality may fail. The issue is described in SOL8160:

SOL8160: The BIG-IP LTM does not choose another pool member when the Action on Service Down setting is set to Reselect and the target pool member becomes unavailable

    https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/8000/100/sol8160.html

If after upgrading, the reselect on service down still doesn't work to reselect a new pool member for all existing TCP connections, I'd suggest capturing tcpdumps and ltm log files and opening a case with F5 Support.

  • Thx Aaron, we upgraded to 9.4.7 and still same issue. We have a case opened with F5 support and hopefully we'll have an answer soon. Thx!
