520 constantly rebooting

Hello!

I recently tried to upgrade my BigIP 520 (backup system) to a newer version of LTM as it was a LB that had broken down, and we dont run 4.x on the box. the installation seemed to be fine, but when I went to boot it i got nothing from the Console or the monitor except a never ending loop of booting. I gets to the loading kernel section then reboots.

I am currently trying to perform a clean install of software over the offending one but at the moment I am having no luck.

Any suggestions on what the problem would be or how to solve it would be much appreciated.

  • So which version of OS is the unit running currently? What do you see on the console now? Do you have a support contract for the unit?

If not, when was the last time the unit did have support? Once you get the unit booting, you can reactivate the license and view the service check date. It must be later than the release date of the OS version you're wanting to install. See SOL7277 for details on this:

SOL7727: A service check date that is earlier than the license check date now requires you to relicense the system before upgrading

  • I am currently trying to run 9.2 or 9.4, trying, being the most important word.

The box is in support but i am trying to fix this on my own as it is a test box and will provide me with good training and support experience.
  • Sorry forgot to say, the console gives me the boot partition choice and then when you select one gives the normal loading screens before rebooting and starting the whole thing all over again.
  • Can you log the serial console output of a boot up to the point of failure and post the text here?

    Thanks,

  • Booting 'BIG-IP 9.2.3 Build 34.8 - drive hda.2'

    [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1400, size=0x18b787]

Thats all i get, when you use the monitor all you see is loading GRUB and then back to the f5 splash

Sorry after that on the monitor it does say Uncompressing linux ok....booting the Kernel then reboot!
