  • Hi SSHSSH,

If you look in the Management Console under persistence and choose "Cookie", then flip to the "Help" Tab it gives a description of the different methods.

Cookie Insert: Specifies that the system inserts server information, in the form of a cookie, into the header of the Server Response. This is the default setting.

Cookie Rewrite: Specifies that the system intercepts the BIGipCookie header, sent from the server and overwrites the name and value of the cookie.

Just to add a little bit extra. When I was told about cookie rewrite mode I noted two advantages from the F5 technical person, firstly that the server owner is in control of the handling all of the cookies (as mentioned by Matthieu) and also it takes load away from the Big-IP.
