No internet connection when connected to F5 edge gateway VPN

Hi,

I am having VPN on Edge Gateway 8900 with HF 6, version 11x

I have about 5k plus users connecting to the VPN. We are using Full tunneling.

Everything was working fine until last week, where some group of Marketing users started complaining about not connecting to internet (external websites like gmail.com or yahoo.com) when connected to the F5 Big IP edge client adapter (which is installed on their systems).

Its not the problem with the adapter as i tried to uninstall and re-install it.

Most of my Marketing guys are on the fields and they work on MIFI wireless cards from Verizon.

They are able to connect to the internet when they are not connected to VPN using the MIFI wireless card. However, when they connect to VPN using F5 edge client adapter. Then the third party websites does not show up.

Please someone help me with this issue and give me some steps that i should follow or look into.

Truly appreciated!!!

  • Hi,

Did you check if the default route is well changed on your client ?

Also, do you set anything about proxying traffic through the tunnel ?

Are your client able to access ressource behind the edge gateway (not public resources but local ones) ?

  • Hi Thomas,

Thank you for the quick reply.

Yes the default route is well changed and i have check the proxying traffic to the tunnel and it looks good.

User is able to connect to the internal websites when connected to the VPN. however, only the external websites are not working.

It never happened before and i have about 5k users on the same VPN. Its just a group of users from different OPCOs are having this issue.

I am not sure what could be the issue with only these users and if there is any patches required. I even checked if they are in correct Group Policy and checked the existing EDGE client adapters.

Give me more information on default route and steps to perform or check.

    Highly Appreciated!!!

  • To check default route you just have to do it on client's computer.

    On Windows : route print

On Linux/Mac/Unix : route -n or netstat -rn

Did you check on your router or firewall behind Internet and your BIG-IP if you can see traffic ?

  • I lost my connection after connecting to F5 VPN. I'm about to resolve this issue by turning off/exit my anti-virus (Symantec & Malwarebyte). Malwarebyte might have block the proxy setting that result in the lost of internet access.

  • When you disable your anti-virus, are you still connected to your VPN ?

Also, did you check "Client Proxy" configuration under your Network Access profile ?

  • Hi Thomas,

I check my Network Access profile and DNS, settings are all correct. It is only I exited Malwarebyte then am I able to access my VPN. I exited Malwarebyte before I reconnect to VPN.

  • Hello Siarudra, I believe I am now in the same predicament as you were a couple of years back :( were you ever able to find a solution to this connectivity problem? Any help will be highly appreciated.
