Combining Link Controller with APM on Big IP 1600

Dear all,

I have a specific question about adding APM functionality within our currently used standalone Link Controller (LC). Using the new version 11.4 I personally believe this is possible now.

“Starting in BIG-IP 11.4.0, all modules are supported on all platforms. Refer to the BIG-IP LTM 11.4.0 release notes for exceptions”.

Memory: 4 GB or less The following guidelines apply to the BIG-IP 1600 and 3600 platforms, and to VE and vCMP guests provisioned with 4 GB or less of memory. •No more than two modules may be configured together. •AAM should not be provisioned, except as Dedicated.

Can someone tell me if I am correct and able to add APM to our current Big IP 1600 LC platform?

Best regards Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

With your 1600 you'll be able to add APM as an add-on without problems.

Link controller is running on TMOS so everything should be possible as it's the same software.

Thank you for your comment, I still don't believe it is not possible in reality. Technically I should work, but it's not available for sale. Today I received the following reply from F5 sales UK; Hello Marvin, Although a BIG-IP platform with 4G memory should be able to run 2 modules I’m afraid that this is not possible for the 1600 with LC. I’ve tried to configure your required setup in our ordering tool and it’s simply not possible. This means that a 1600 LC with APM is not supported by F5. Kind regards, Jack Niesen So no other option than buying a new device :-( I think
