Disabling F5 pool member

REselect is configured for action on service down. if F5 mark a pool member as down. We have been asked to disable the pool member and then proceed to restart of app. why is it so? anyway f5 will reselect available pool member and wont allow the traffic to down pool member right ? please clarify

  • Hi,

Reselect: LTM will choose another pool member if one is available and rebind the client connection to a new serverside flow. (Existing OneConnect flows may be re-used if available, or a new server connection will be established if necessary.)

Use "Reselect" when the client can continue with a new server seamlessly. The request in play at the time of state transition may be lost, so the client will need to be able to recover gracefully to use this option successfully.

  • Hi,

When you want to restart an application running on a pool member, you can manually disable the pool member or BIG-IP can do it for you, automatically.

I prefer the second one. There are several ways to accomplish this task. Just put a monitor that can check the content of that application and that's it.
