Configuring F5 BIG-IP Load Balancer for use with vSphere PSC 6.0

Hello, Regarding the pre-req´s on vmware kb: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&externalId=2098006

"The Self IP must be on the same subnet as the SSO IP Addresses. The Self IP cannot be on the same subnet as the F5 Management IP. " - Is there any explanation to why it must be like this? We have unfortunately configured the network differently;

Net 1 - PSC 10.166.32.0/24 Net 2 – Bigip Self IP 10.166.232.0/24 Net 3 – Bigip Vip 10.166.160.0/24 Net 4 - Bigip Mgmt 10.166.165.0/24

Is there a way to get around it with this configuration?

Getting this from vCenter Server Appliance: A server error occurred. [500] SSO error: Unable to initialize, java.io.IOException: extra data given to DerValue constructor.

Best regards Johan

    Historic F5 Account
    I set this up on earlier version and don't remember having issues with this, but you may want to create a SNAT pool with an IP in the 10.166.32.0/24 network and configure the VIP to use the new SNAT pool.
  • The F5 management network (the one you setup when configuring the BIG-IP) can't be on the same subnet as the other interfaces used for passing traffic. So, you can't use the BIGIP Mgmt. network interface to access resources like the PSC. With that being said, can you give us an overview on how your VIP is configured and what default gateway you have set on the PSC's?
