Please advice the best way achive minimal error and downtime to migrate. Thanks in advance!

  • A lot of manual work sadly - There's no "easy way" to my knowledge.

I'd be tempted if possible to get all the software of the present devices onto version 10.2.4 - Which will give you at least consistency between version 10 software.

Depending on hardware after that - I'd then be tempted to take them up to version 11.5.3

From there you should have a decent base to proceed.

You will need to review your iRules for deprecated functions

  • Hi Iain, Thanks for your suggestion! I have tried to find out ways but I am getting stuck due to challanges. Yes, I do see a lot of manual task as well. So I thought to have some idea from you guys.

I have control to the new box which is having 11.5.3. I don't have control to present three box having 10.2.3, 10.2.4 and 9.4.5 only I do have the config files in text format.

I can downgrade the new box to 10.2.4. Now the question is if I brieng the new box to 10.2.4, will that support config lines of 9.4.5?? I am not sure...

    Thanks, Nantu

  • Nantu, there is no way to merge all three different software version's bigip.conf to one v11.5. Only option to take manual work.

  • You may be able to take the new box to 10.2.4 - You'd have to check the F5 Hardware/Software compatibility matrix.

The good news though - Version 10 supports Bigpipe aswell as TMSH... So..

You can enter lines of config using the bash shell - For example

    b virtual 'myreallygoodvirtualserver_vip destination 10.10.10.10:80 profile myprofile '

    etc etc

That would be a lot quicker... All depends how complex your VLAN configuration/lockdowns were off the old boxes of course if they were tied to interfaces.
