Unable to setup MSSQL Database profile - Option Does not Exist

Running 12.1.1 Build 1.0.196 HF1 however i've looked on an 11.5.1 and 12.0 appliance and they don't have the option either.

Trying the guide located here: https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/manuals/product/ltm-implementations-12-1-0/18.html

The step called: Configuring database access by user

On the Main tab, click Local Traffic > Profiles > Databases > MS SQL . The MS SQL Profiles list screen opens.

There is no "Database" profile anywhere. I also don't see any iApp or other download to add it. What am I missing?

  • Matt, its Datebase monitoring profile which will apply to pool for checking status of pool member(mysql database).. You will only see in monitor option not on profile.

    Go to LTM-->Monitor-->Create-->type "MYSQL"

      That's the Monitor creation and that works fine - this is actually a profile type, at least as specified in the documentation.

      see below: Click Create. The New MS SQL Profile screen opens. In the Profile Name field, type a unique name for the MS SQL profile, for example, mssql_user_access. Select the Custom check box. From the Read/Write Split list, select By User. From the Read Pool list, select the pool of MS SQL database servers to which the system sends read-only requests. From the Write Pool list, select the pool of MS SQL database servers to which the system sends write requests. From the Users Can Write By Default list, select Yes to give write access to all users, except those in the Read-Only Users list. In the Read-Only Users area, add users to whom you want to provide read-only access to the database. Click Finished.

      You need to upgrade your license if that database profile is missing.

  • Hey Matt, did you get an answer for this that makes sense? I found info that said LTM license is all that's needed, but mine is missing too (I'm on 12.1). I opened a support case but was just wondering if you got any info that helped.

    Thanks!

  • It's part of the "advanced protocols" license. I also heard it was going away though...

      Got a response from support that it's part of that license but they didn't say anything about it going away! Have you heard of a reasonable alternative for triggering on SQL requests? Right now I'm just looking at TCP collect and payload, but I'm not sure that's going to work. :/
