Self-ip Not pingable

Hi All, With VMWARE ESX, I have 2 F5 VMs. In both F5 VM's internal and HA interfaces respond to self ping and also from each other, but having issues with ping with external interface self-ips. External self ips ping themselves fine. However, they are not able to ping the other F5 device. In this setup, we have a dedicated interface for the external vlan. Any thoughts on why this can be? I have deleted and recreated the vlan, self ips; I have tried tagged and untagged, I have checked the port lockdown is allowed all, I have requested the VM interface to be reinitialised, has not helped. Running 13.1.0. There is no other config other than the interface initialisation and DNS/NTP server ip address. Any thoughts? I don't think its a F5 issue?

Thanks, Vidhya

  • Hi Vidhya203,

I could not understand your problem

"External self ips ping themselves fine. However, they are not able to ping the other F5 device."
What do you mean by the other F5 device?

Do you have an HApair that wants to reach another F5?

Could you please clarify your problem in detail?

  • This seems a VLAN problem. Can you double-check that this external VLAN is extended from the external switch all the way to the port-group of the VEs. And can you also double check if there routes for this ping to happen?
