Pool & Pool Member Flapping

What could be the cause of pool flapping in F5 ? is it something related to version of BIGIP that cause these flaps?

  • Hi,

Did you check the following point:

    • That you set a persistence.
    • That yo uset a monitoring (check in /var/log/ltm that your pool member was not down which could explain the flapping).

    Regards

  • Hey Vasu

    1. Did you see the pool flap when checking the /var/log/ltm log file?
    2. How often does the problem occur? Every hour? Every day? Ever week?
    3. How many monitors do you have assigned?
    4. Can you perhaps send a snippet of the configuration?

Pool members that flap can be caused by numerous of things. Having it something related to a BIG-IP version is possible but not that likely. At least it should not be the first place you should look.

What version are you running today?

Depending on how often it happens you can do the following:

If it happens often you could:

    1. Enable monitor logging - K12531: Troubleshooting health monitors
    2. Capture traffic using TCPdump - K411: Overview of packet tracing with the tcpdump utility

Start with collecting that data and get back to us.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
